Head / VP of Engineering, Profitable Startup!

July 26, 2011

Internet startup that is very profitable and has a healthy revenue stream. About 10-15 people in the company, with about 3-4 in engineering, including the CTO – all high caliber, very high production. Bivium is closely partnered with the founders. Company is seeking to hire a new Vice President of Engineering so the CTO can focus solely on being the CTO. Looking for a technical ‘up and coming’ Vice President of Engineering. Someone with startup experience and has been in the coding trenches in recent past, but quickly rose into technical leadership / head of engineering type of roles and aspires to become the Vice President of Engineering for a small development team at a very successful startup.

Startup and web development experience are a must. Core Java web combined with modern web technologies/frameworks experience is ideal, but not a must. The new VP of Engineering is also expected to be a great recruiter, as he/she will be responsible for growing the software development team by adding another 4-6 high caliber software engineers. The new VP will of course have Jamie LeBlanc and The Bivium Group to assist him/her with their ongoing recruitment efforts =) but they are of course expected to tap their own personal networks and always keep an eye out for exceptional software talent.

Target base salary is commensurate and will be competitive. Package will also include stock options. This company is led by an experienced team that has previously started and successfully sold several other startups, and once again have developed a thriving business with a clear exit strategy mapped out.

For serious, confidential consideration…please forward your resume to Jamie @ Bivium Candidates must be local and able to work for any U.S. company w/o sponsorship or visa transfer.

Software Engineers (Java, RoR, Hadoop, Cassandra, Solr, ML) hottest startup you’ve never heard of!

June 14, 2011

The hottest consumer startup you’ve never heard of is opening up a brand new office in Cambridge, MA. Two reasons why you have not heard of them;

1. They have literally been flying under the radar for the past 3+ years aggregating, classifying and structuring enormous amounts of data that millions of people make use of everyday through other various means.
2. Company was started in another country and will continue to operate with their small team there and brand new team in Cambridge, MA.

This company will be announcing their latest round of financing and new Cambridge office in the next few weeks. Bivium is working directly with the CEO and currently the only ones aware that they will be setting up a new development team in Cambridge.

This company will soon be unveiling their new search engine; a search engine with specific content that consumers will most definitely find very useful. Currently there is no other web site, application or search engine that provides this much needed service – not all in one place anyway. The founders are serial entrepreneurs and have successfully started and sold their previous startup, it was a major acquisition. Founders have extensive experience in this vertical domain and no doubt are on to something much bigger this time around!

Technology wise, this company makes use of Java, Ruby on Rails, Hadoop, MapReduce, HBase, Cassandra, Solr, Lucene, Heritrix, Machine Learning and NLP techniques. However, they do not care if developers have experience with any of the aforementioned technologies. They truly want to hire based on smarts and potential – targeting mostly junior’ish and mid-level software engineers, but also interested in seeing talented senior software engineers with performance and scalability expertise. They’re currently making use of hundreds and hundreds of servers and are moving to the thousands. So many fun, interesting, super geeky challenges here. Sounds crazy, but this is like an early-stage Google type of opportunity. Again, this company’s search engine is content specific and not aiming to dethrone general search engines like Google or Bing.

Sound interesting? It should! This company is going to take off like wildfire and you can be one of the original members of their new Cambridge, MA office. Send your resumes and, if you have a Github address, please include that as well, to Jamie @ Bivium for careful, confidential consideration.

UX/UI Designer Developer

May 10, 2011

Very small, early stage consumer facing web site application company quietly coming out of stealth mode. Experienced leadership team, with a top flight VP of Engineering – working directly with and have a lot of history with this hiring manager. Bivium placed majority of current software engineering team. Currently seeking an experienced UI / UX Developer with solid Design skills (or) a UI / UX Designer with solid Development (like programming editor, javscript, css debugging, source control, issue trackers, unixy stuff like how to get around etc.) skills for the design and production of web 2.0 / contemporary websites and web applications . Looking for that rare breed, someone right in-between with the ability to transform great design ideas into reality by coding on-the-fly CSS/HTML/JavaScript – iterate designs in real-time in sandbox environment with code that is near production quality. This person “needs to be very strong in listening, understanding, communicating, and balancing the various needs of different groups: for us this is users, marketing, science, business … all of which provide the insight needed to make a great product. We have struggled (as many companies do) with an us-and-them mentality; I want someone who can elicit great ideas from various groups, and turn them into a unified, consistent product experience — my product team owns and is responsible for realizing concept, implementing and delivering on requirements, but overall maintaining a consistent vision, idea, and direction for the product.”

This is a small, local team of collaborative software engineers (about 5) seriously very talented developers with relevant backgrounds. Now looking for that ‘Ace in the hole’ User Experience/Interface Design Developer to bring it all together. The ability to connect with users through exceptional, unique and novel user experience is a key fundamental element to their overall success. “Users interact with this product over time, and the application needs to respond, not just by producing pretty web pages, but by producing a user experience that has richness, responsiveness and a sense of flow. But also, we have a strong focus on psychology, both in our ability to understand and respond to the needs of users, but in our understanding of core ways people respond to “things” — touch, texture, shape, color, motion just as a start.”

You can be that person!! The right person will get chills thinking about an opportunity like this.
Please submit your resume/portfolio to Jamie @ Bivium for confidential consideration. Candidates must be local and able to work for any U.S. company w/o sponsorship or visa transfer.

Salary to commensurate. Highly competitive and package will also include stock options and great benefits, including the flexibility to work from home on occasion.
